[Wujiu Story] Who found coal here?
0301/2023

On August 6, 1914, Russian businessman Vorontsov began logging timber in the forest area from yakeshi to Urqihan. In 1931, when the forestry workers of Soviet businessman Vorontsov surveyed the forestry in this area, they first found coal debris on the hillside, thinking that it might be a coal-producing area, that is, "Wujiu Coalfield".

In 1932, Japan invaded China and cut trees together with the Russians. In order to strengthen the transportation capacity of timber, in 1940, the Soviet businessman Vorontsov invested in the construction of a special railway in yakeshi-Kudur forest area, which was completed in the second year.

In 1941, it was invested and developed by Soviet businessman Vorontsov, and Wulang Weixiong was the mine manager, preparing to mine the "Wujiu Coalfield". Because the mine was located 59 kilometers away from yakeshi Station, it was named "Wujiu Coal Mine" according to the number of kilometers.

In 1947, he obtained the coal mining license from Hulunbeier Autonomous Government, and went to the mining area for exploration and operation on June 2 of the same year, which ended in January 1951. During this period, drilling and roadway exploration were carried out, with a drilling range of 2km from north to south, 3km from east to west, and a total of 6 roadways with a length of 465m. Coalfield development has always been in the prospecting stage, and it has not been officially mined or sold. The main reasons for the lack of formal mining are that the official mining license has not been approved by the government; Secondly, the special railway line to the mine could not be completed until June 1951, so it would be difficult to transport a large amount of mined coal. Thirdly, when the local forest area is being developed, less coal is used for industry, and the forestry residents use wood for heating, while less coal is used for civil use.

In June, 1957, after the establishment of Wujiu Coal Mine, a large number of exploration, development, construction and production began.
